About Me
About Me
My name is Ben Crosby, I have lived in Gilbert for the past 6 years with my wife and my 4 daughters (ages 9, 8, 6 and 2) in the house my wife and I purchased from my mom. She bought the house when I was in high school so I've been familiar with Gilbert for over half of my life.
I attended school in Virginia and I completed my Associates degree at Mesabi Range. After my associates I worked for a few years before going back to finish my Bachelors degree. I have been working in management for various companies and I have over 10 years experience in the business and management field.
If you were to ask me last year if I ever saw myself running for any type of political office, I would have told you absolutely not. Politics or government has never really been something I've been interested in. I follow it, and I vote, but I never wanted to be on the public stage. The change of heart is simply because I can no longer stand idlily by and watch as the city where I live, where my kids live and where I've spent a lot of my life growing up--descend into so much chaos and mismanagement of finances.
I have observed some concerns over the past 5 years and watched as my utility bills grow more and more each year, I've watched the city incur fee after fee and I've seen little resolution to help reduce the burden we bear as citizens. I have complained to my friends, complained to my wife and I've shaken my head at some things that I see with the city--it's now though that I believe that if I want anything to change, then I have to try to be the change I want to see.
Between the utility bills, the taxes, the garbage service, the lack of attracting businesses and increasing revenue, and the various other things that I feel we can improve on, I want to at least attempt to see what I have to offer up in service of paving the way for a better City of Gilbert. I work for an energy company, so I understand pricing, invoicing, fees and the impact on the customer--the difference, if my company prices ourselves too high, the customer has a choice, they can switch. In Gilbert, that choice isn't as easy but I understand my customers I understand how to remain profitable without sucking every penny out of my customer base. I think I can apply that knowledge and mind set to see what can be done to ease the burden we as residents and citizens of Gilbert face.
I will be completely honest, I have very little experience in city government (in fact the only real dealings I have with city governments is when I sit through city council meetings to apply for conditional use permits, buy EDA land, or answer questions about a building project my company is involved in) but I feel that my knowledge in business management and my experience with customers and people has provided me a unique set of talents that I am confident I can learn quickly, and help find solutions to some of our issues. I have held numerous positions with my jobs where I have taken over a failing department or division and with my understanding of good business practices, my analytical skillset, my ability to view and understand the broader picture, and my aptitude for increasing profitability and efficiencies, I believe I can be of valuable assistance towards steering the City of Gilbert back on track.
I believe in a team environment and I believe that with myself, and the help of some of our better council members, we can overcome the situation we are in and that collectively we can all march together to bring Gilbert to the level we all believe it can be.
